Coconut Oil May Prove Useful In The Treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease 

Currently there is no cure for Alzheimer’s Disease, but a new book titled ‘Alzheimer’s Disease:  What If There Was A Cure?’ by pediatrician Dr. Mary Newport may shed some light on a very simple treatment and possible cure for Alzheimer’s Disease – Coconut Oil.  Dr. Newport’s husband became an Alzheimer’s suffer and was unable to do regular activities such as walking and reading.  After adding Coconut Oil to his diet his symptoms started to disappear.  It is unknown at this time if using coconut oil has been beneficial to other patients.  Coconut oil can be found in natural coconut oil Supplements that can be purchased from health food and nutrition stores as well as big chain stores that sell supplements.  Coconut oil can also be obtained in certain foods bought at the grocery and also used as cooking oil occasionally.  Here are some good and bad facts about Coconut oil that patients and pharmacy customers should know before buying the supplements or adding it to their diet.     

The Bad:
· Calories.  Coconut oil has 115 calories per tablespoon so caution should be used when adding it to foods or cooking with it.

· Stomach Problems.  Coconut oil can cause stomach problems such as diarrhea and other gastrointestinal problems according to Dr. Newport’s book. 

The Good:
· Increases good cholesterol.  Coconut oil can increase levels of good cholesterol which is good news all around. 

· Natural antibiotic.  Coconut oil and supplements can act as a natural antibiotic to help protect against viruses and infections.  The oil helps keep bacteria levels down so the body can act to fight against viruses and infections of the body.
