Pharmacy Technician Careers and Job Interview Mistakes

Acing the pharmacy technician job interview can be tough, but it does not have to be. Job candidates sometimes make mistakes in the interview that can cost them the opportunity of being considered for a job.  Here are some common mistakes people make on job interviews:

1.  Having no knowledge of the pharmacy you are applying to.  Having little or no knowledge of the place you are looking to work for in a job interview looks bad.  It shows the interviewer that you did not do your homework. Do as much research as possible to find out about the hospital or retail pharmacy you are applying to. Check out their web site, careers section on the web site, and be sure to ask the interviewer any questions you may have about the pharmacy.

2.  Bad appearances.  According to a survey conducted by Lifehack.com, 65% of bosses said a potential job candidate’s clothes are sometimes a deciding factor between hiring one person over another.  Dress professionally and always use common sense when it comes to dressing for a job interview.

3.  Failing to set yourself apart.  Not setting yourself apart from other interviewees can hurt you in an interview. Be sure to list all of your pharmacy experience on your resume.  This not only includes regular employment, but including internships and externships is also key to impressing the pharmacist or pharmacy manager.

4.  Be honest.  Always give correct and accurate information on job applications and in interviews.  Bring a copy of your references and always ask former employers if they can be used as a reference.

What did you do special to ace your job as a pharmacy technician?  What advice would you give others who wish to gain employment in the profession?
