Discovering Your Inner CEO

Do you have an inner CEO side just waiting to burst out?  Pharmacy technicians are extremely smart individuals that have gone through both an educational technician program, had on the job training in most cases, and passed a national certification exam.  You may have big ideas about how your workplace can operate better and increase patient safety or maybe you have an outside hobby that requires you to be a CEO.  Here are ways in which you can let that inner CEO out of the bag:

  • Clear vision.  Get together your ideas for the next promotion at your retail pharmacy and ask if you can help with the advertising.  Many independent pharmacies wear more than one hat when it comes to getting things done – just be sure you are not over stepping your boundaries as there are some things technicians cannot do by law.

  • What makes you different.  Author and designer Tamara Mellon suggests seeing your vision and taking simple steps to make your dream happen.  Discover something that sets you apart from others and use that difference to stand out from the crowd.

  • Enjoy.  Remember to enjoy your success once you have obtained the job you desire as a pharmacy technician.  Make your success known by wearing a CphT pin on your white coat so everyone can see that you are a certified technician.

The road to success can either be a long or short one.  Have a clear vision and you are most likely to achieve your career dreams.  More career advice articles can be found by visiting the NPTA web site at www.pharmacytechnician.org
