Are You Ruining Your Job Search?

You’re working hard to get a job, but no job offers seem to come through no matter what you do. Not being able to find employment can be frustrating and you may not know what you are doing wrong. Here are some well-researched tips on how to make your job search easier:

  • Look beyond the web.  Are you only looking online for work? This may be the reason you feel stuck in your job search. Remember to check the daily newspaper for work and also seek out job possibilities while you are out doing other things. Seeing a ‘help wanted’ sign in the window of a pharmacy for a technician job may lead you to your dream job.

  • Are you ignoring social media?  Are you doing just the opposite and ignoring social media? LinkedIn is an excellent social media resource where you can search for jobs or find job matches based on the LinkedIn profile you create. Strive to get recommendations and endorsements to increase your probability of finding the right job.

  • Going it alone.  Are you trying to look for work solely on your own? Be sure to ask for help when you need it. Ask family and friends to proofread your resume or if you can afford it, hire a resume writer or job coach. Also, touch base with your LinkedIn contacts. They may know of someone who is hiring in your field or be able to recommend you to one of their own contacts who is hiring.

Sometimes job seekers are their own worst enemies. This does not have to be the case if you follow the tips above. Hopefully you will find yourself in the job of your dreams in no time.
