Med Prep Consulting Inc, Issues Voluntary Nationwide Product Recall Due To Potential Mold Contamination

Med Prep Consulting, Inc, of Tinton Falls, NJ, has issued a voluntary nationwide compound product recall of all lots of its products due to potential mold contamination and sterility assurance issues.  The sterility concerns were discovered due to a Connecticut hospital noticing visible contaminated particles in 50mL bags of Magnesium Sulfate 2 GM in Dextrose 5% in water, 50mL for injection IV solution.  At the time of publication, 5 contaminated bags were noted. 
 
Pharmacy technicians know the importance of safe medication compounding and handling processes and this valuable information can be passed on to fellow technicians for their knowledge and benefit.  Compounding is an important part of pharmacy technician studies and safe handling practices of all materials is a must in all pharmacies.               
 
All health care facilities that received products compounded by Med Prep Consulting, Inc, should remove the products compounded by the company and return them to the pharmacy.  A full list of recalled Med Prep products can be found by going here http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm344229.htm
 
Health care providers and healthcare facilities were notified by phone, fax, email, and postal mail of the recall.  Those with questions and product complaints should contact Med Prep Consulting via phone at 732-493-3390.  Med Prep can be reached from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time).
