Wal-Mart Care Clinics Expand In Texas

Urgent care clinics are not a new practice, but “Care Clinics” that will be the first owned and operated healthcare clinic by Wal-Mart will be somewhat new. Wal-Mart currently operates health clinics in some of their stores, but this will be the first time that a clinic will be solely owned and operated by the big box retailer alone.

The first clinic opened in Copperas Cove, Texas.  Two other Wal-Mart owned clinics will open in Benbrook and Carrollton Texas on June 27th. The cost to receive healthcare from the clinics will be $4.00 for Walmart employees and $40.00 for the general public. Other urgent clinics have been known to charge double, even triple the amount to be seen by a doctor or physician’s assistant (PA).

With new clinics opening daily, this means good news for pharmacy technicians and pharmacists who need work.  More new clinics opening also mean the need for more pharmacy staff as Wal-Mart doctors and PA’s write prescriptions at the new clinics and the need for pharmacy technicians will increase.   The clinics will accept walk-ins and appointments, and some of the services offered will be wellness care, preventative care, primary acute care, management of chronic conditions, referrals to specialists, lab testing, and immunizations. The hours of operation of the Care Clinic are: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m..
