CVS Caremark Changes Corporate Name to CVS Health

Does changing a name really have an impact in the way a company operates?  Some name changers make a difference and some companies that change names go through big alterations, mergers, some good, and some bad changes. Hopefully for the welfare of the company and its employees all goes well with the newfound differences.

CVS Caremark pharmacy has announced that they will change their corporate name to CVS Health to reflect a broader and better healthcare commitment to the patients they serve. CVS hopes that the name difference will help ‘change the healthcare landscape and it’s expertise to drive innovations needed to shape the future of health.’

CVS Health will include the following under its new name: 7, 700 retail pharmacies, 900 walk-in medical clinics, and a leading pharmacy benefits manager with almost 65 million plan members. CVS Health has ended its tobacco sales ahead of its October 1st deadline.  The company has also launched a comprehensive and personalized smoking cessation campaign and launched a campaign for tobacco-free kids.

Larry Merlo, president and CEO of CVS Health recently commented on the companies corporate name change. “For our patients and customers, health is everything and CVS Health is changing the way healthcare is delivered to increase access, lower costs, and improve quality. As a pharmacy innovation company at the forefront of a changing healthcare landscape, we are delivering breakthrough products and services, from advising on prescriptions to helping manage chronic and specialty conditions,” said Merlo.

Do you think the corporate name change will have a big impact on pharmacy technicians and the way their do their jobs?
