Is your PTCB Certified Pharmacy Technician Certification close to expiring?

Are you wondering what steps you need to take to renew it?

Don’t worry, the process is actually pretty easy!

PTCB CPhTs are required to renew their certified pharmacy technician certification every 2 years in order to maintain their credential. Renewing your certification helps pharmacy technicians stay up-to-date with industry information and best practices, as well as maintaining state board of pharmacy requirements in most states.

To begin your CPhT recertification process, you first need to determine your recertification application window. The application window opens 60 days prior to your certification expiration date.

IMPORTANT: If you fail to recertify by your expiration date, you lose your certification and are required to apply for reinstatement within 1 year of the expiration of your certification in order to resume activities as a CPhT.

Now, let’s review the continuing education (CE) requirements for recertification.

PTCB requires:

  • A minimum of 20 hours of CE during the 2-year recertification period, which must include:
    • 1 hour in Pharmacy Law, and
    • 1 hour in Patient Safety

CE must be from a recognized provider and be pharmacy technician specific (with a “-T” designation in the program’s Universal Activity Number (UAN) from ACPE-accredited providers or listed in the Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination Content Online.

When it comes to the fees, it is pretty straightforward:
The cost for PTCB CPhT recertification is $49 every two years.

The actual process for renewal, which was revamped back in 2019, offers a quicker way to track CE and receive application approvals. You no longer need to manually enter CE information as it is automatically tracked in CPE Monitor. You simply need to have a free, personal NABP e-Profile ID number for use with CPE Monitor.

To submit your CPhT recertification application, it’s as easy as 1..2..3.

  1. Login to your PTCB Account.
  2. Confirm that you have completed all of your CE requirements.
  3. Submit your application for review.

Or as PTCB puts it “Apply, Attest, Submit!”

You can always go to PTCB’s website to learn more.
